Us South Africans know a thing or two!

Growing up, it was the normal tea in our house! The default. As a child I had it with milk and sugar, but over the years I dropped both the milk and sugar (my mother always used to tell me that ‘I was sweet enough’). It was one of the things that makes a place feel homey to me… being able to have a cup of my good old faithful! Of course, I’m talking about Rooibos (Afrikaans for Red Bush) which is being toted as the next super tea according to an SMH article my brother alerted me to.

It can’t really be the next super tea can it? Given that it’s been around for all my life and centuries before that! It has also been known to have healing properties for centuries, but only now are they coming to the forefront of popular knowledge – hence the claim that it is the next super tea. Don’t you love how the media’s discovery of something that has been used by millions for centuries makes something new, shiny and exciting?! ;-)

Super tea or not, I’ll always enjoy my bossies (Rooibos)!
