This week should really have a category all of its own – Mummy Meltdown! But thanks to some fabulous friends I am totally blessed to have in my life I am being given just what the doctor ordered – TIME OFF!!! Between hubby and fabulous friends responsibility and day-to-day tasks have been taken from me and I have strict instructions to sleep and/or rest as much as possible! No planning, doing, organising, sorting… whatever… not supposed to be thinking about all that!

Perusing Facebook yesterday I came across some great social media commentary I just had to share! There is a large percentage of our population that probably think the level of social media usage is a bit ridiculous… take a good look at the picture! You’ll get a kick out of this one!

This is a post I just had to write… no matter where you sit in the debate over teacher’s wages, please read this… it REALLY puts the argument into perspective! And then remember that these people our society seems to place such little value upon are the people nurturing the growth of knowledge in tomorrow’s leaders!!! Perhaps if we paid teachers better, we could ensure a higher calibre of teacher for our children… if we could ensure a higher calibre of teachers, that would ensure a higher calibre of education for our children!!! And if our children received a superior education… the possibilities could be endless!!!
I saw this on a friend’s Facebook status – it really helps put the teacher’s pay dispute in perspective! Continue Reading…
[Richard Quadrio is pastor at Macquarie Chapel in Sydney. He authors a very insightful blog - Word4Life. This is a recent blog post of his that I found rather witty, while at the same time very challenging. I hope you get something out of it too.]
Steve Jobs’ death at age 56 is so tragic. As a long term member of the Apple tribe, I am sad to see Jobs’ death at a relatively young age. His achievements and willingness to think differently deserve praise and reflection. His remarkably wide impact on not only the computer industry but animated movies and the music industry is something so rare. Continue Reading…
Despite the fairly lousy weather, I can highly recommend it! The food was fantastic & of course one of the highlights of my dining experience was the ordering process! I’ve always loved gadgets, and their menus were the best I’ve come across yet! We ordered on an iPad, flicking through the menu – with information options for more details & pictures of each dish & the ability to add the items you wanted to your order (and then review that your order was correct before it was placed)! So of course, I got the fun ordering experience and Granny played with Cheeky Monkey – everyone was happy!
The food looked amazing and the taste certainly didn’t disappoint! Delicious!

Well, actually ‘When your morning goes to poo’ is technically a more accurate description!
I’m never the best with getting out the door exactly on time (or even within ‘enough’ time… whatever that means!). It stems from the struggle I have to get out of bed in the morning (yes, even with Cheeky Monkey’s presence I still struggle to get out of bed – it’s amazing the entertainment your hand can provide!!!). And these days the struggle to get out of bed is genuinely due to not getting enough sleep… rather than the laziness which may have been contributing to the problem when I was younger!
Anyway… point being that getting out the door can be challenging. Continue Reading…
[This is part of the Out and About with Kids series]
It’s never too early to start reading!
I have very fond memories of our local library where I grew up in South Africa. It was quite a large building that was quiet and cool in the summer time, there were lots of large dark wooden bookshelves, green carpets and these gorgeous big bay windows with green seat covers. I remember going to the library regularly (every fortnight or so) and taking out the maximum number of books we were allowed with our little pink/green/yellow pocket library cards that the borrow card from the book would go into so the library knew which books we had out (I know… I must be a dinosaur because they were still using a manual paper system)! I loved the smell and feel of the library, I loved the time we got to peruse the shelves and pick the books we wanted to read! I still have vivid memories of where some of my favourite books were located on the library shelves! It’s little wonder that I still have a very deep love for books! One of my favourite children’s series’ were the Topsy & Tim books.
Spring is in the air… even in the blogosphere! All over the place bloggers are talking about their spring cleaning efforts and it’s inspired me!
I’ve been meaning to get through the junk on the bookshelves in our study that hubby has kept “just in case”… I’m talking hand written notes from his undergraduate degree that has no relation to his chosen career or current further studies (his current masters study relates directly to his chosen career path). I’ve also been going crazy with the lack of space in our study/spare room and all the stuff we have in our house that we never use! Why keep things in my house that haven’t been used in years? Cheeky monkey is growing and developing so much that even I can notice changes on almost a daily basis – it’s awesome! But one thing he just hasn’t got the hang of yet… the jolly jumper!!! He just kinda stands there… with his knees locked… just hanging out. Sometimes he’ll bend one knee and keep the other leg down and locked causing him to sort of swivel around which affords him a change of scenery, but not much else.
We’ve tried to demonstrate (standing in front of him in the jolly jumper and jumping up and down, feeling like an idiot but what the heck it’s worth a try) – nothing! Continue Reading…
