Archives For Marriage Building

Granny and grandpa visited on the weekend to play with Cheeky Monkey as they hadn’t seen him in a few weeks! While they were here, granny and I got into the roses, pruning them back to within an inch of their lives (which I’m told is the kind of pruning roses thrive on).

Of course, as tends to be the way of things, once the roses were pruned (or more accurately while we were pruning) I started noticing everything else that needs doing in our garden! Continue Reading…

Retractable relief

August 15, 2011 — Leave a comment

A month or so ago Aldi had a retractable washing line on their weekly specials list. I’d been wanting a better drying solution for quite some time, but wasn’t sure what would be best & didn’t want invest any significant money into the project. So for $40 how could I go wrong?

Like most genius ideas in our house, it sat in the kitchen near the back deck waiting to be put up for a good few weeks (but much to my joy it was only a few weeks & not a few months!). Last Saturday morning, after spending time diagnosing our random irrigation system, hubby & a mate put up the retractable washing line on the back deck which is covered! So despite the miserable weather I was able to do some washing, sans Chinese laundry look in my kitchen!

Is it insane that I’m over the moon about this fantabulous little luxury? :-)

After a year in our new home, hubby finally got around to diagnosing the issue with the sprinkler system that runs off our tank water! He had a friend around to help & their discoveries were truly remarkable!

Firstly, despite the sign in the front garden specifying the use of tank water… Most of the sprinkler system was actually hooked up to the water mains and NOT the tank water supply! Continue Reading…

I’ve carried our first child for 9 months, with a very unpleasant pregnancy of nausea, awful pelvic pain and colds & flu-like I’ve never had before. I woke my hubby up one morning at 2am because my head was SO painful I seriously thought they were going to have to drill into my skull to relieve the pressure (shows like Greys Anatomy & Private Practise didn’t do me any favours in bringing this extreme experience to my attention!) And then of course… let’s not forget the fact that I gave birth! And dealt with the hemorrhoid variety of ‘joys’ that come with the territory of postnatal health! So lets just say, I’ve been through my fair share of pain. Not to mention the awesome wrist pain that comes from still having relaxin in my system and having an every growing baby boy! I’m very careful how I lift him, and am constantly telling hubby to likewise… though it seems to fall on deaf ears! ;-)

So the other day hubby starts complaining of chest pain… Continue Reading…

We’ve been pretty lax about date night since our son was born… A few more pressing things to attend to with a newborn in the house! But lately we’ve had a little more breathing room and are starting to consider what we can do for us! Still, options are limited when you have a baby… And besides that, its freezing outside, why would I want to leave the comfort of my ducted gas?! So we cook or get takeaway and (in a perfect world where the boy sleeps when it suits us… ROFLCOPTER) have a lovely, quiet meal together. Then we might chat, watch some TV together, play with our son (inevitably he wants a piece of the action), play a game, clean up around the house (together while chatting), or more recently – watch a movie.

I was anti movie watching for quite a while… Hubby’s isn’t the most naturally talkative of men and I don’t view watching a movie together as quality time the way he does (I’m not so interested in the shared experience & post movie analysis that he loves). For a long time I’ve dug my heals in and flatly refused to watch movies… Not the best approach I know, but I wanted communication that wasn’t centered on movies/TV. But in the spirit of compromise and greater marital harmony I’m giving my heels a night off now & then and engaging in the shared experience hubby is so fond of! Continue Reading…

I caught up with a good friend this week…we began by reading Philippians 1:1-11! The discussion that ensued for most of our time together focused on Philippians 1:9-11:

“9And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, 10so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

It’s quite a challenging little chunk of scripture if you ask me! As a new Mum I’m highly sleep deprived and still very much trying to work out what having a family of three looks like! I really started thinking about this in earnest while listening to Focus on the Family on 1WAY FM 91.9 & 94.3 in the car on Saturday… they were talking about family and how you should prioritise your marriage above your children because it is in the best interests of your children to do so! That your children will feel safe and secure in the knowledge of your love and ability to provide for them when your marriage is going well and you can demonstrate a healthy, loving relationship to your children. This had been floating around in the back of my mind for a few days… Continue Reading…
