Debt Free by Thirty

What a great aim to have! Being in my late twenties and having only entered the property market a year ago, I’m not sure that this is a realistic dream for me. Especially considering we’ve dropped to one income since buying our first home so that I would be able to stay home and raise our family! It’s a big life change to adjust to… but I’m confident that we’ve made the right decision for our family! :-)

So what is my dream? Continue Reading…

Granny and grandpa visited on the weekend to play with Cheeky Monkey as they hadn’t seen him in a few weeks! While they were here, granny and I got into the roses, pruning them back to within an inch of their lives (which I’m told is the kind of pruning roses thrive on).

Of course, as tends to be the way of things, once the roses were pruned (or more accurately while we were pruning) I started noticing everything else that needs doing in our garden! Continue Reading…

Retractable relief

August 15, 2011 — Leave a comment

A month or so ago Aldi had a retractable washing line on their weekly specials list. I’d been wanting a better drying solution for quite some time, but wasn’t sure what would be best & didn’t want invest any significant money into the project. So for $40 how could I go wrong?

Like most genius ideas in our house, it sat in the kitchen near the back deck waiting to be put up for a good few weeks (but much to my joy it was only a few weeks & not a few months!). Last Saturday morning, after spending time diagnosing our random irrigation system, hubby & a mate put up the retractable washing line on the back deck which is covered! So despite the miserable weather I was able to do some washing, sans Chinese laundry look in my kitchen!

Is it insane that I’m over the moon about this fantabulous little luxury? :-)

After a year in our new home, hubby finally got around to diagnosing the issue with the sprinkler system that runs off our tank water! He had a friend around to help & their discoveries were truly remarkable!

Firstly, despite the sign in the front garden specifying the use of tank water… Most of the sprinkler system was actually hooked up to the water mains and NOT the tank water supply! Continue Reading…

Poop & piddling

August 8, 2011 — 2 Comments

Hubby pointed out a great truth the other day…

When we are single, dating, or even married without children we listen to parents tell stories involving poop & piddling and wonder why they laugh hysterically. Is it some kind of secret club? How can they be so fine with eating while recounting that level of grossness?! When did bowel motions become such an interesting and humorous topic of conversation?!

Once we take the plunge into parenthood however, we realise the importance of these tales. Continue Reading…

Learning to let it go…

August 7, 2011 — 4 Comments

I’m a new traveler in the world of spit up, vomit and poop stories. I’m getting relatively little sleep, especially as Cheeky Monkey develops, becomes more alert and goes through stages of waking at night on an all too frequent basis! Considering all that you would think that I’d be willing to cut myself a bit of slack here and there in relation to high standards/ expectations… or at least be too tired to care. But, unfortunately, you’d be wrong!

Why is it that we (western society) have managed to get ourselves so busy, stressed and obsessed with productive progress that a new mother can feel that if she isn’t the all singing, all dancing model she was pre-baby that she’s somehow less of a woman?! But more importantly, why have I bought into this crazy train of thought?! Continue Reading…

Not sure where I got the energy, but I had a bout of cooking and baking last week! I decided to give making lasagne a go – hubby’s favourite, so he was very pleased about that! The first night it wasn’t the best, I didn’t have enough mince, so I made it again and it worked much better… despite forgetting to get extra pasta sheets and using spaghetti for one layer instead, it was extremely well received! :-)

On Saturday I somehow found the energy to do some baking! Continue Reading…

1WAY FM is Canberra’s Christian Community Radio station, it is the only Christian Radio Station in Canberra and the surrounding regions. In case you aren’t aware, community radio stations are governed by very different laws to commercial stations. The most significant difference is that a community station is restricted to 5 minutes of sponsorship (their version of advertising) each hour. That means that you can enjoy more music! It also means that a community radio station such as 1WAY FM doesn’t have the capacity to attract the advertising revenue that a commercial station has. Consequently, community radio stations around the country (including 1WAY FM) rely on donations to remain on air!

1WAY FM is currently running their annual fundraiser – Share-a-thon 2011: Growing Stronger, Reaching Further. They are seeking to raise $120,000 towards the annual running costs of the station. If you have the means, please prayerfully consider supporting this great missional organisation!
